Patrick Mahomes seems to have lost a bet on Texas Tech following his alma mater’s Orange Bowl loss to Oregon.
Chiefs linebacker Jeffrey Bassa shared a video Friday on his Instagram story of Mahomes wearing an Oregon jersey.
Mahomes played for Texas Tech from 2014 to 2016. The Red Raiders’ College Football Playoff hopes were dashed with a 23-0 Thursday loss.
Bassa played for Oregon, which meanwhile advanced to the semifinals, from 2021 to 2024 before he was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2025 draft.
The linebacker told reporters Friday he had been immediately prepared after the Orange Bowl loss to bring in one of his former Ducks jerseys for Mahomes.
“I definitely brought that jersey in, the all-white warp speed jersey,” Bassa answered. “Me and him were joking about it in the training room earlier. He was like, ‘Man, you got the jersey quick.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, no, man. I was not playing.'”
The Chiefs are watching the College Football Playoff ahead of the end of their own season, which wraps up Sunday with a Week 18 road game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Mahomes, who underwent surgery on his left ACL in December, will sit out with an eye on returning in 2026.
