Los Angeles police are investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and another seriously injured in the Westlake area Friday night.

The shooting occurred just before 6 p.m. near Bonnie Brae Street and Sixth Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division.

Investigators said two women, ages 35 and 40, were struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital. One of the women later died from her injuries. The other remained in serious condition.

Police have not confirmed what led up to the shooting or the exact location where it occurred. At least five yellow crime scene markers were visible in the westbound lane of Sixth Street.

Video posted to the Citizen App showed the intersection crowded with onlookers across the street from a strip mall that was cordoned off with crime scene tape. First responders could be seen in the distance.

The area is located about two blocks east of MacArthur Park.
