In the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, police say the driver of a snow machine fled on foot when he spotted a RIDE check and was later located hiding under a deck

More proof that RIDE programs really do work.

In the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, officers with the Anishinabek Police Service were conducting RIDE activities at various locations across Sagamok Anishnawbek when they spotted a snow machine leaving an address.

“Upon seeing the officers, the driver fled on foot and was located hiding under a deck at the rear of a residence,” says a news release issued by the police force. “He was identified as being on a release order and was placed under arrest.”

Police say a search of the suspect turned up the following items:

  • 8.6g of suspected crystal meth
  • 1g of suspected blue and purple fentanyl
  • 2.5g of suspected dark yellow fentanyl

A 42-year-old man from Sagamok Anishnawbek is charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs (x2 counts)
  • Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle While License Suspended

Police did not release the suspect’s name.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
