Two people have died after their ATV collided with a ute on a highway on Tasmania’s west coast.

A 15-year-old girl from interstate and a 38-year-old Rosebery man, who were both on a Honda all-terrain vehicle, died at the scene on the Murchison Highway, between Zeehan and Rosebery on Saturday.

Police said inquiries indicated the ATV and a Mitsubishi Triton collided on the highway. Emergency services were called about 4:30pm.

The driver of the ute, a 40-year-old man, was not injured.

“Tasmania Police would like to thank the group of interstate tourists who stopped and rendered medical assistance at the scene,” police said in a statement.

A police investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of both the deceased,” police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The highway was reopened to traffic overnight.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
