A Jacksonville man survived a broad daylight shooting in the Normandy Estates area, leaving residents fearful as police search for the suspect.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering after being shot in the face while sitting inside his car in broad daylight on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened just after 4:15 p.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Guardian Drive, in the Pinecrest neighborhood.
Police say officers arrived to find an adult man with a gunshot wound to the face. Investigators say the victim was seated inside his vehicle when an unknown suspect opened fire, then fled the area. No suspect description was immediately released.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
While canvassing the neighborhood, First Coast News spoke with severa lneighbors who described the moments after the gunfire — and the fear it sparked.
One neighbor told First Coast News the shooting happened right beside her home, and she heard every gunshot. She told our crew her security camera captured the victim getting into his car, reversing, and being shot at.
As the gunfire continued, she said the vehicle rolled uncontrollably into the side of her house. The woman became emotional while describing what she witnessed.
Other neighbors say the sound of gunfire immediately caught their attention.
“It was louder than usual, which is why it alerted me,” said neighbor Timothy Sarge.
Police blocked off the street leading into the neighborhood for hours.
“It was 9 o’clock when they start let people actually go home, those people parked over there for hours,” Sarge said.
Residents say the violence has left them concerned about safety — especially with children often playing in the area.
“I just have my nephews live here, so I just worry about their safety because they, they play on the street. Literally, we just stand like right here and watch them go on the little cars or whatever, so that’s all I would worry about,” Sarge said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the case remains an active investigation and detectives are still working to identify the suspect.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
