Entering the 2026 campaign, the Pittsburgh Pirates have one of the best minor league systems in baseball. That is partly due to potential stars such as Konnor Griffin, Seth Hernandez, Hunter Barco, and Edward Florentino. Another prospect attracting attention is reliever Brandon Bidois.
The Australian native put himself on the map with a stellar 2025 campaign. In 40 games between four levels, Bidois posted a 0.74 ERA while striking out a career high 69 batters. He also held opponents to a .110 batting average and thrived regardless of the matchup.

Due to his play, Bidois saw some time in high-leverage situations. He made the most of those outings, converting seven of his eight save opportunities. Through his first 92 appearances in the minors, the 24-year-old has 17 saves.
After finishing his third minor league season in Triple-A, Bidois could be an option for the Pirates this summer. He is currently on the 40-man roster and does not have much left to prove in the minors. So far this offseason, Pittsburgh has added Mason Montgomery and Gregory Soto to the bullpen mix, but they could have company in the coming weeks.

Regardless of what additions the Pirates make, Bidois should be one of the top in-house options if he does not earn a spot out of spring training. He was rewarded for his efforts last season when he was named the Pirates’ 2025 Kent Tekulve Reliever of the Year. The honor is given annually to the organization’s top minor league relief pitcher.
As Bidois added to his trophy case, he also showed he could handle a bigger workload. He finished the 2025 campaign with 61 innings pitched, which was a career high. His previous career high was 30.2 innings. Being able to handle the stress of a full season will be key.
While a lot may change before Opening Day, Bidois will be a player to watch as the Pirates look to build a roster that is capable of making a postseason berth.
