Maybank has announced a new contactless transaction limit for Google Pay.
Effective Jan 27, the company said cardholders no longer have to key in their card PIN (personal identification number) for purchases above RM250.
“However, a maximum limit of RM2,500 per transaction will now apply. For transactions exceeding this amount, you will be required to use your physical card,” it added in an announcement on its website today (Jan 5).
For debit card holders, each Google Pay contactless transaction is capped at RM2,500. Transactions exceeding the daily purchase limit set by the cardholder will be declined.
For added security, cardholders may choose to set their Google Pay transaction limit to below RM2,500 by adjusting their debit card purchase limit on the M2U platform.
Credit card users can continue to perform multiple Google Pay contactless transactions up to their card’s available limit, as long as each transaction does not exceed RM2,500.
Maybank introduced Google Pay support to users in Malaysia in May 2024.
The feature lets users link Visa or Mastercard cards to their Google Wallet app on Android devices, enabling contactless payments directly through their device.
