BROOKLYN, NY — Police are searching for a suspect after a 71-year-old man was attacked with a shovel during a daytime assault in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn.
The unprovoked attack unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 near Stryker Court and West 1st Street, where police say the suspect came up to the 71-year-old and struck him in the face with a shovel before running off.
The victim was taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island in stable condition, police said.
The suspect, who still remains at large as of Monday morning, is believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a medium build and a brown beard, police said.
He was last seen wearing a black jacket layered over a light-colored zip-up jacket, brown pants, black shoes and dark-colored glasses.
