PORTER, Texas (KTRK) — Alex and Shelby Westbrook are lacing up for Houston Marathon weekend.
The Westbrooks admitted running competitively was never a thing until some Disney magic changed that.
The Porter couple had been to the parks 15 times together and counting. In 2024, they signed up for their first runDisney race.
“They have all the characters as you’re running. It’s a whole experience,” Shelby shared.
Alex added, “Doing these runs together has impacted us in a positive way. It’s a sense of accomplishment, but it’s something you did together, you accomplished together. So, it’s a nice microcosm for life and for relationships.”
That first running experience together sparked something bigger.
In 2025, the Westbrooks ran in their first Aramco Houston Half Marathon. In 2026, they will return to downtown Houston and run the We Are Houston 5K on Saturday, January 10th, a race that is part of Houston Marathon weekend.
“It’s a great atmosphere, and so we are really looking forward to that,” Alex said.
