VINTON, La. (KPLC) – Two people are dead after a single-vehicle crash north of Vinton over the weekend, according to authorities.
The crash claimed the lives of Jerry Deslatte of Port Arthur, Texas, and an unidentified passenger, according to Trooper Roy Jones of Louisiana State Police.
The crash happened just after 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 4. According to Jones, Deslatte was driving a pickup truck south on La. 109.
For reasons still under investigation, Deslatte failed to navigate a left-hand curve near Line Road, entered a ditch, and overturned, Jones said.
Deslatte was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to Jones. The passenger was also unrestrained. Both died at the scene.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.
LSP is working to identify the passenger. Jones asks anyone with information on the crash to call Troop D at 337-491-2511.
