Nathan Fillion took some lighthearted jabs at the unofficial Edmonton parklett named after him while making an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this week.
Speaking to guest host Anthony Anderson, Edmonton-born Fillion agreed the “Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion” on Whyte Avenue was a less than inspirational namesake.
“It looks like a bus stop,” joked Anderson during Monday’s show.
“You’re not wrong, you’re not wrong,” the 54-year-old Canadian actor answered.
Again making a tongue-in-cheek remark, Fillion went on to question the pavilion’s possible safety hazards.
“It’s right up there in the middle of Whyte Avenue,” Fillion said.
“It’s actually off the curb too. So it’s in the street. It’s pretty dangerous, pretty dangerous. Really taking your life into your own hands when you enjoy the Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion.”

The star of “Castle,” “The Rookie” and “The Suicide Squad,” acknowledged the pavilion was made possible by a radio show in Edmonton. That would be CityNews’ sister station Sonic 102.9.
In 2019, Lauren Hunter from Sonic 102.9 began the campaign to rename an Edmonton park after Fillion. A petition garnered thousands of signatures and was supported by the actor’s “Suicide Squad” castmates, such as Margot Robbie.
The City of Edmonton announced in 2021 the “Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion” would become reality with temporary signage at city hall for the opening weekend of “The Suicide Squad.”
Last year, Whyte Ave business Vivid Print installed unofficial Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavillion signage on a newly installed parklett, getting a nod from the TV and movie star on social media.
