Trey White totaled 19.5 sacks over the last two seasons and was Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego State star edge rusher Trey White is transferring to Texas Tech, according to Rivals college football reporter Hayes Fawcett, who said White told On3 he is doing so. Trey White collaborated on the Instagram post and shared it on his Instagram story.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on January 1 that White intended to enter the transfer portal when it opened on January 2.

In the last two seasons, White had 107 total tackles and 19.5 sacks.

In 2024, he was Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and named to the conference’s first team after recording 12.5 sacks. With 7 sacks in 2025, he was also named to the conference’s first team.

“I feel like I want to be at a place where I can be developed and develop, which happened last year, so why would I want to leave and go somewhere else?” White told CBS 8, ahead of the 2025 season, when asked why he did not transfer following his 2024 season.

“I just got developed here and had a great season. Why would I go somewhere where there are a lot of unknowns? Plus, I have a lot of family here that supports me as well, and that just made the decision [easier] to stay.”

White played high school football in the San Diego area at Eastlake High School.

Texas Tech won the Big 12 Championship this past season and made it to the College Football Playoff, where they would lose in their first game to Oregon.
