LEHI, Utah (KUTV) — Lehi Mayor Mark Johnson is against the new alignment of a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) project plan that would create a high-capacity transit service between Lehi and Draper.
The project is still in its early stages and is called the Point of the Mountain Transit Study. It proposes to create a transit line option extending from Draper into Lehi. So far, UDOT has conducted an environmental assessment to look at alternatives for high-capacity transit services between Draper and Lehi.
On June 25, UDOT held an online public meeting to provide an update about the project.

On Monday, July 7, Mayor Johnson posted a video on Lehi City’s Facebook page denouncing a new alignment that would route the proposed rail across I-15 to the west side, instead of a previously proposed alignment on the east side. In his video, he asks Lehi residents to submit public comments to UDOT asking them to keep the original proposal.
“The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has released its updated Point of the Mountain Transit Plan, and it may not be the best fit for Lehi or for those who travel through our city daily,” the post reads.
The post continues to list several ways in which city officials feel the new proposal falls short, including failing to get residents from Utah County to Salt Lake City faster.
UDOT’s public comment window on the environmental assessment runs through Thursday, July 10th.
For details on the project and information on how to provide public feedback, see UDOT’s project presentation.
