After a brief reprieve around New Year’s Eve, toasty temperatures in North Texas are back.

Tuesday’s high is forecast to reach 76 degrees according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, potentially hitting 20 degrees above normal for early January. Despite that unusual warmth, it will still be a few degrees away from the hottest Jan. 6 on record, which was 79 degrees in 1982.

Tuesday evening should also be warmer than average, but the 46-degree low is only 10 degrees above normal. Similar temperatures are expected on Wednesday, with a high of 78 degrees that could also approach record heat.

Rain is possible Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, but these storms are not expected to be severe.

A 30% chance of scattered showers exists for the core counties in North Texas . If more than a tenth of an inch of precipitation falls at DFW International Airport, it will be the most rain the region has received since Nov. 30.

Warmer weather should continue Thursday and Friday before a cold front arrives, dropping temperatures down closer to more seasonably appropriate levels.
