Now that Stranger Things has wrapped up after nearly a decade, everyone has the same question for the show’s young stars: what’s next? We know that Sadie Sink is about to join the MCU, for example, but it has been unclear what projects leading actor Finn Wolfhard would star in now that he finally has Hawkins, Indiana, in his rearview mirror.

The actual answer may shock you: in a recent interview, the young actor confirms he has no movies or TV shows coming up and that he is planning on touring with his band and releasing another album.

No Upcoming Acting Projects For This Stranger Things Star

During an interview with Esquire, the Stranger Things star was asked directly whether he would continue creating music or focus more on his career as an actor or director. In response, Wolfhard replied, “I have nothing on the books officially for acting,” and that while he wants to keep starring in movies and TV shows, he won’t take on another project unless “it’s something that I’m really in love with.”  Otherwise, the actor said that “I’m probably going to tour a little bit with my band next year and put out another album.”

Putting out another album may be easier than you think. Despite the often-grueling Stranger Things production schedule, Finn Wolfhard has found time to work on some tunes here and there. As he said during the interview, “I have some music that I’ve written over the last two years that I want to record.”

A Musical Journey That Began Nearly A Decade Ago

If you are surprised to discover that the Stranger Things icon is a musician, you may be doubly shocked to discover just how long he has been professionally cranking out songs. Way back in 2017, Wolfhard formed a band named Calpurnia in which he played rhythm guitar and provided lead vocals. They released one EP, Scout, in 2018; otherwise, they are best known for their cover songs, and after they covered Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So” at the band’s request, they appeared in the music video for Weezer’s own cover of a-ha’s iconic song “Take On Me.”

Calpurnia officially disbanded in November 2019, and in 2020, Wolfhard debuted his newest band, The Aubreys. This new band released an EP in 2020 (Soda & Pie) and an LP in 2021 (Karaoke Alone) while also creating music for the Stranger Things star’s 2020 film, The Turning. Speaking of Finn Wolfhard, he released a solo album in 2025 (Happy Birthday), but don’t worry: the Aubreys are still around, and unless he creates yet another group, they are the band that he will be touring with for his next big project.

Given how demanding Stranger Things has been and how much scrutiny Wolfhard has faced in the last decade, it’s good to know that the multi-talented actor has other outlets for his outsized creativity. Before he announces tour dates, you can check out the actor’s musical chops by streaming both of his bands and his solo work on platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. The Aubreys in particular are actually pretty good, and the psychedelic verve of this indie rock band might just be what it finally takes to get “Running Up That Hill” out of your head!
