ST. LAWRENCE RIVER, New York (WWNY) – There’s a word of warning for people who fish or snowmobile on the St. Lawrence River: stay off the ice.
Ice-clearing activities are underway on the river, including the areas above, below, and between Eisenhower and Snell Locks, in preparation for the closing of the seaway’s navigation season.
People who ice fish or ride snowmobiles and ATVs are warned to stay off the river because the ice can become unstable.
People are also prohibited from using the canal in the area between the Eisenhower and Snell Locks.
The seaway was supposed to close for the season on Monday, but ice on the river has delayed ships from getting to their destinations.
