SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage from a deputy-involved shooting that took place in June in Southeast Bexar County.
The incident took place on June 21, 2025, and involved Deputy Angel Ornelas III, who has been with the department for less than two years. The shooting took place following a high-speed pursuit of a stolen BMW convertible driven by 34-year-old Joshua Ryan Garcia.

According to the BCSO, the vehicle was flagged by an automated license plate reader, leading Deputy Ornelas to attempt a traffic stop. Garcia allegedly fled, leading deputies on a short pursuit that ended at a dead-end in the 7600 block of Dove Drive, a residential neighborhood.

BCSO officials say that as the deputy approached the vehicle, Garcia allegedly drove toward him, prompting Ornelas to open fire. Garcia was struck multiple times but sustained only minor injuries. A female passenger in the car also suffered minor injuries from the vehicle crash following the gunfire.
Garcia was treated at a local hospital and released later that evening before being booked into the Bexar County Jail on multiple felony charges.
Deputy Ornelas, who was hired by the sheriff’s office on December 21, 2023, remains on administrative leave as the investigation into the incident continues, which is the standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings.
