It’s been a dry few weeks in North Texas, but a little respite could be on the way.
Rain is expected to return to the region in the early hours of Thursday, but the system isn’t likely to bring a downpour. Only 0.07 inches are forecasted to fall at DFW International Airport that morning, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
Still, that could be the most precipitation the region has recorded in five weeks. In total, December was 2.75 inches short of its average rainfall.
Before that band of storms, the sky is expected to be mostly clear on Wednesday, with temperatures continuing the trend of abnormal winter warmth. The high on Wednesday is 76 degrees, which is 20 degrees above normal for early January.

Thursday morning’s potential for rain isn’t expected to temper the heat much, with the high again expected to hit 76 degrees. But winds may pick up in the afternoon, with gusts up to 28 miles per hour possible.
Another round of showers is possible Friday morning, but the weather service said the exact timing of its arrival is slightly less clear. A cold front is expected to move in behind that rain, returning Dallas-Fort Worth to more seasonably appropriate temperatures for the weekend.
