The Indiana Fever ended up a game away from the 2025 WNBA Finals despite missing both Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham for the entire postseason.

The pair’s close relationship — alongside Lexie Hull, they formed “Tres Leches” — was one of the most discussed storylines of the team’s season. One endearing moment came when, after a midseason Fever win, Cunningham struggled through her postgame interview.

She repeated “Fresh of breath air” multiple times in an attempt to say “breath of fresh air.” Clark had previously mocked her on social media and took the opportunity to do so again in January.

Cunningham posted a year-end photo chronicling her first year in Indiana, both on and off the court.

She included the video of her interview after a game against the Washington Mystics, where she scored 21 points in a win.

Clark shared the video on her story. A number of Fever players commented directly on Cunningham’s post, responding to the video. “Breath of fresh air (X emoji), Fresh of breath air (check emoji),” wrote the official Indiana Fever account.

Cunningham, currently a free agent, averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1 steal in 2025. Her season ended in August after she tore her right MCL.

She was acquired in a multi-team offseason trade with the Phoenix Mercury and served as a key bench source of offense and overall enforcer, famously defending Clark in an incident against the Connecticut Sun.

Cunningham dropped a breadcrumb that she may be returning during a podcast with Real Housewives star Meredith Marks in late December.

“We need to get you to a Fever game. Because they’re just like, so different, and so much more fun compared to all these other games,” Cunningham told Marks, indicating that she may like to return next year.

She also spoke about her pending free agent status on a podcast with Caleb Pressley in December, citing the lockout as a potentially challenging factor in her offseason move.

“I am not with any [team] right now, no one is with anybody,” she explained. “So, I’m part of the new CBA, and I’m waiting to see who I’m gonna be with.

“So it could be with the Fever, it might not be with the Fever.”

The Fever will once again be title contenders in 2025 with Clark back healthy and firing again.
