PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix PD announced Wednesday that the suspect who was shot by Glendale police earlier this week has died from his injuries.
Authorities identified the man as 40-year-old Vincent Cerda Jr.
Glendale police said Tuesday morning that its detectives were tracking Cerda, who had been wanted for aggravated assault. He was surveilled for several days and was in the area of 29th Avenue and McDowell Road just before 10 a.m.
As police were chasing the man, Glendale PD spokesperson Jose Santiago said the Cerda pulled out a gun and pointed it at officers, which prompted police to shoot him. It’s unclear how many officers fired their weapons.
No officers or detectives were hurt. This was the second officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the state so far in 2026, according to Arizona’s Family records.
