Joanna Chalup Cortez was arrested in connection with shooting a Phoenix toddler in the face. Here’s what we know.
PHOENIX — An arrest was made in connection with the shooting of a Phoenix toddler, the city’s police department said.

Officers were called to the area of 32nd Street and Broadway Road around 12:19 p.m. Tuesday for reports of unknown trouble, the Phoenix Police Department said.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located a toddler with gunshot wounds.
The toddler was taken to the hospital, and the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police said 29-year-old Joanna Chalup Cortez was identified as the suspect, and she surrendered on Jan. 7.
Chalup Cortez was arrested and is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and discharging a firearm at a residence.
Police said they do not believe there are any additional suspects in the shooting, but the case remains active.
