The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season. A fact weighing on the organization. However, they have a chance to finally win a postseason game this year, even if that won’t come easily against the Houston Texans. While they’re a wild card team, the Texans shouldn’t be underestimated. They’ve won their last nine games, and they have the best defense in the league. Still, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, Aaron Rodgers’ former Green Bay teammate, is supremely confident in Pittsburgh.
“I know everyone wants to say, ‘Texans this, Texans that,’” St. Brown said Wednesday on his podcast. “Give me the Steelers. Give me A-Rod to fucking wipe them. I don’t care. Give me Aaron Rodgers, give me Steelers… Let that warm-weather Houston team travel to Pittsburgh.
“I hope it’s freezing up there… If there’s anyone that can pick apart a defense, it’s fucking Aaron Rodgers. I’m not worried about that… And watch the Steelers’ defense lock that shit down. Watch them turn up. Playoff football, they’re fucking turnt. They’re not losing.”
St. Brown makes several good points, especially when he mentions the weather. Not only do the Texans play in a warm-weather state, but their stadium is also a dome. They don’t often have to worry about the elements.
That could be a problem in Pittsburgh. It gets cold at Acrisure Stadium in January, even without factoring in potential wind. The Texans are good, but Mother Nature can be cruel.
Also, the Texans’ offense isn’t as dominant as their defense. Ranked 18th in the league, their rushing offense is only 22nd. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been solid this year, throwing for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 14 games. However, he’s thrown at least one interception in all but two of his 2025 road games.
Add in that the Steelers’ defense is fourth in the NFL in takeaways, and that could give Pittsburgh an avenue to victory. The Texans aren’t bulletproof.
However, there’s still some doubt in the Steelers because of their recent track record of playoff losses. St. Brown says that’s irrelevant.
“It doesn’t matter. Do you know who their quarterback was? It wasn’t Aaron.”
He’s not wrong. Rodgers is the Steelers’ best quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger, who retired after the 2021 season. Their quarterbacks in their last few postseason appearances have been Russell Wilson and Mason Rudolph.
Even if Rodgers isn’t the same player that he used to be, he’s still head and shoulders above what Pittsburgh has been used to under center. He could be the difference maker. That’s why the Steelers signed him. He should at least give them a fighting chance against the Texans.
