Carol Edith Babich
OBITUARY
Carol Edith Babich 78, of Poway, California, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, ending a three-year struggle with multiple cancers. She was born in Connecticut on March 1, 1947, to parents John and Edith Novak, growing up in Groton CT with her siblings Nancy, Carl, Ruth Ann and Walt. She graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in 1965.
Carol worked at Electric Boat Co. in Groton when she met her husband of 58 years, Pete Babich in 1967 while he was in the US Navy serving on a submarine stationed at the New London Sub Base (in Groton). Carol and Pete married in 1968 and moved to California when Pete was transferred to a submarine in San Diego. Carol and Pete moved to Poway, CA in 1974 where they have lived since, raising four children Peter, John, Katie and Caren. Carol worked nearly 30 years supporting the Poway Unified School District in various roles across transportation, food service and finance administration.
Carol was a loving, caring, loyal wife, mother and friend and she always led with heart and justice. She was an expert Candy Crush player, enjoyed gaming adventures with her sister-in-law Susan, and was unmatched in the culinary arts. She was known as Grammie to her nine amazing grandchildren: Pierson, Braden, Lauren, Evan, Colin, Samantha, Kendra, Tyler, and Thomas. She made sure every birthday and special occasions were always celebrated. Her love for them gave her immense joy.
Carol’s Celebration of Life will be a private family event, but you can honor Carol by considering others in need, donating to charity, and contributing to progressive causes that enhance the lives of those in need. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Kaiser Permanente hospice donation fund.
Carol will be missed dearly and will long be remembered by those fortunate to have received her warm embrace and expression of love.
