The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 2:26 a.m. on Thursday for black ice until 9 a.m. for Putnam, Westchester and Suffolk counties.
“With surface temperatures falling to around or just below freezing, high relative humidity and light winds, black ice may form overnight into early this morning. Be prepared for a possible thin layer of ice on untreated road, sidewalks, stairs, and driveways,” states the weather service.
