CHICAGO (WLS) — A man has been charged in the crash that killed a 24-year-old woman in University Village, according to police.

The crash happened in September at about 5:30 a.m. in the 1100-block of West Congress Parkway, Chicago police said.

Police said the unknown driver of a dark-colored Lincoln sedan was heading eastbound when it struck a median.

Lilia Perez, 24 of Chicago, was a passenger in the car. Officials said she died at the hospital.

Hamid Popla, 29, was charged on Dec. 24 in relation to the deadly crash.

He was facing two charges of failing to report an accident/death.

Popla is due in court on Friday, Jan. 9.
