Now topped out and craneless, 626 South Wabash is within a couple stories of completing its exterior glass installation down in the South Loop. The apartment tower from DAC Developments and Melrose Ascension Capital topped out in October, then brought the tower crane down in November.

The 19-story, 164-unit building, designed by Antunovich Associates, is expected to open this fall. Apartments were designated as 80 efficiency units, 24 two-bedroom layouts, and 60 four-bedroom units. However, a permit still pending in the Chicago Data Portal calls for some 17th-story units to be reconfigured from four bedrooms to three bedrooms. The mix of units is geared toward student living.

The tower’s podium will include 60 parking stalls and 3,100 square feet of retail space. Clark Construction is the general contractor, so named by a decree from the express permit program issued in January 2025.
