A historic Fort Worth home was saved from major damage after firefighters put out a fire in less than 20 minutes.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A 124-year-old house is still standing in a historic neighborhood in Fort Worth thanks to the work of the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a house fire around 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the 1800 block of Western Avenue, the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a social media post.

When crews arrived on the scene, they saw smoke coming from the eaves of a wooden, two-and-a-half-story home, the post reads. Firefighters began opening up the first and second floors to fight the fire in the attic, officials said.

The flames were brought under control in 20 minutes, the post states. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The 124-year-old home is a staple of Western Avenue, which was once a part of Camp Bowie, officials say. The home’s history is tied to the historic Arlington Heights neighborhood, according to the post.

“We’re grateful crews were able to contain the fire and save the home,” officials said.
