A pizza restaurant known for its flavored crusts is quietly slicing pies in an unlikely spot in Fort Worth: Hungry Howie’s, originator of the Flavored Crust pizza franchise, has opened inside a gas station at 3301 E. Berry St.
The shop has been operating since October but is ready to make a splash with a grand opening celebration in January. It’s the second Hungry Howie’s in the Fort Worth area, after a location that debuted in Keller in 2024.
Hungry Howie’s began as a 1,000-square-foot hamburger shop in Taylor, Michigan that has since turned into a carry-out and delivery pizza chain with more than 500 locations across the country.
Hungry Howie’s offers eight flavored crusts: Butter, Asiago Cheese, Cajun, Butter Cheese, Sesame, Garlic Herb, Ranch, and Italian Herb.
The menu aims to satisfy all – with dough made fresh daily in-house, offering original round, deep dish, thin crust, and gluten-free options.
They also serve calzone-style oven-baked subs, salads, flatbreads, wings, and an item called Howie Bread, which is basically bread sticks made from the pizza dough, served with pizza sauce, in options such as 3 Cheeser, Asiago, Cajun, or Cinnamon.
The new Fort Worth shop is owned and operated by 27-year-old entrepreneur Jatinder “Jay” Dhaliwal and uniquely positioned within a newly built complex that includes a gas station and liquor store, which Dhaliwal also owns.
A release calls the small complex “one of the region’s most convenient ‘one-stop’ shopping and dining destinations.”
The store sits across from Renaissance Square, off Highway 287, smartly just a mile away from hungry students at Texas Wesleyan University. Hungry Howie’s is a 680-square-foot shop for pizza delivery and pickup only within a 6,000-square-foot building that also houses a Chevron convenience store and a separate-entry liquor store.
“People in Texas appreciate convenience, and we wanted to create a true one-stop destination to better serve this community,” says Dhaliwal in the release. “Where else can you fuel up your car, grab a hot, freshly made pizza, and pick up drinks for the weekend, all under one roof? This concept has been my goal and I’m excited to see it come to fruition.”
San Francisco-native Dhaliwal spent the past two years building the Fort Worth complex from the ground up with support from his father, the release says. The family owns two other gas station businesses, but this is their first in Texas, as well as their first venture into food franchising; Dhaliwal says he plans to expand Hungry Howie’s across the Metroplex.
“This convenience center with our new Hungry Howie’s is meant to be the staple of the neighborhood,” he says. “We’re already planning academic recognition rewards for students, partnering with nearby schools and working with local churches on outreach events.”
They’re offering a series of deals to celebrate their grand opening, which include:
- January 16: Meet the Hungry Howie’s Mascot
- January 16–25: 51% off any large round pizza at regular menu price (online carryout orders only)
- January 19: Free medium one-topping pizza certificate for the first 50 customers.
- January 20: Gift card giveaway via Fort Worth Hungry Howie’s Facebook valued up to $150 for the winner’s next party.
Hungry Howie’s is open Monday-Thursday from 10 am-10 pm and Friday-Sunday from 10 am-12 midnight.
