HOUSTON — A popular downtown Houston spot was recently demolished to make way for the city’s growing convention center.

The Rustic’s 25,000-square-foot location — which opened in 2018 — used to sit at 1836 Polk St., right next to the GRB. There are plans to open a new venue in winter 2026, the company previously said. The new site, at 1718 Jackson St., is currently a parking lot.

There are no plans to close the GRB during construction. In fact, Houston will host a major cheerleading championship during the first quarter of 2026. The National Cheerleading Association All-Star National Championship, which will run from Feb. 27 through March 1 at both the George R. Brown Convention Center and Toyota Center, is expected to draw about 65,000 competitors and spectators, according to Houston First. The agreement between event organizers and the city runs through 2028.

The new location will sit next door to the expanded wing of the convention center, The Rustic said.
