Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s new West Terminal is expected to arrive at least three years earlier than previously planned due to the Federal Aviation Administration relaxing its environmental review policies.

Phoenix Aviation staff will begin the planning process for the new terminal this month. The expected opening date is now 2033 instead of 2036.

Sky Harbor’s master plan stated the airport should start planning a new terminal in 2028, but growth in airport activity outpaced projections, moving up the start of the planning process.
