After another fruitless possession by Ole Miss, the Miami offense was right back on the field, grinding the clock.
Miami picked up a quick first down, then Beck connected with Toney for his first catch of the game, a 14-yard gain. Toney took a huge-helmet-to-helmet hit from the Rebels’ Nick Cull.
After a video review, the referees picked up a flag that was initially thrown for targeting, but both Toney and Cull were shaky on their feet after the play and each player was taken into their respective medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion.
Toney would quickly return to action after evaluation.
A holding call negated a big Hurricanes’ gain, and then a false start put Miami behind the sticks in a third and very long situation. The Canes played it safe with a run play, opting to concede the punt and put their stout defense back on the field.
