Kesha Hodge Washington was selected as Phoenix’s next vice mayor by city council on Wednesday. She replaces Ann O’Brien in the role, who will stay on as a member of council.
Hodge Washington, who represents District 8, took office in 2023 as the first Black woman on Phoenix City Council. She is also the first in the role of vice mayor.
Hodge Washington is a lawyer and former Arizona assistant attorney general. Before appointing her to the position on Wednesday, her colleagues described her as a dedicated worker who does not take her responsibility lightly and strives to make thoughtful and equitable decisions.
