SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) – South Portland Police warn of “mange” on the rise among wild animals in the city, most recently seen in a coyote.
Police say the increase is in the Ferry Village area, and that the coyote was healthy enough to run away.
Animal control says the coyote was not aggressive and simply runs off when approached.
If you see a wild animal that appears sick, police say to keep away, as stress can make it harder for animals to recover from mange.
Police are also reminding pet owners to keep their pets up to date on monthly preventatives.
