Dozens of demonstrators rallied in East Los Angeles Thursday in response to the deadly ICE shooting in Minneapolis.

Several of those in attendance showed up to mourn the death of Renee Nicole Good, the woman who was fatally shot by a federal agent.

“I’m here to mourn a real tragedy, a loss of life but also the loss of freedom, truth and justice,” said Father Brendan Busse at the Delores Mission Church. “Just remembering this poor woman, a mother, who was murdered by the federal government and for the many other people who continue to suffer under this administration.”

The demonstration started around 5 p.m. at the Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights. Many demonstrators came with their families to connect with their community and express their frustration.

“I feel like we all feel helpless. I’m at my house, we’re all at our houses watching this rolling,” said Estella Pena. “I feel like being here is so important because you get a sense of community and you get to see that you’re not by yourself.”

The group of demonstrators marched west from Boyle Heights and blocked several streets, according to the LAPD.

The demonstrations across the country come after the Department of Homeland Security and the Trump administration said the lives of the agents in Minneapolis were put at risk and that the shooting was justified.

The killing of 37-year-old Good on Wednesday set off a clash between federal and state officials over whether the shooting appeared justified and whether a Minnesota law enforcement agency had jurisdiction to investigate.

A U.S. citizen born in Colorado, Good described herself on social media as a “poet and writer and wife and mom.” Her ex-husband said Good had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school Wednesday and was driving home when she encountered ICE agents on a residential street.
