Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night

Impaired driving charges have been laid after a single-vehicle crash earlier this week.

Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to the area of Wellington Street East and East Street just before 8 p.m. Wednesday where they found a vehicle stuck in a snowbank.

Officers suspected the driver may be impaired and say multiple breath samples registered above the legal limit.

Craig Murphy, 38, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Fail to Surrender Insurance Card (under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle (under the Highway Traffic Act)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.

Murphy was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.
