Candace Cameron Bure is opening up about the time her marriage to Valeri Bure got a boost from a surprising source — their son, Lev.

“Val and I went through a really, really rough season in our marriage in 2020, and that’s when the pandemic hit,” the Full House star revealed on the latest episode of her eponymous podcast. “It was going south quickly, and we were like, ‘I don’t know, don’t think…we’re gonna make it through.’ But at one point, [our son] Lev preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us. Just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it.”

Candace continued, “And I’ll never forget, because he said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. and I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young who never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says.'”

Candace and Valeri have been married since 1996, after first being introduced at a charity hockey game by her Full House costar Dave Coulier. The Bures have two other children together — Natasha, 26, and Maksim, 23 — who were both also present for the discussion.

The recollection came about because a topic of conversation on the podcast was “can you recall a time when someone spoke the truth of God into your situation?” Candace didn’t specify exactly how old Lev, who is now 25, was at the time of this marriage sermon, but it certainly made an impression on her and her husband.

The star said her son “was such a calm voice that had so much wisdom behind it” that she and her husband “walked away” from the experience thinking to themselves, “We raised some pretty good kids.”

“It was so in our face, but that was like the pivotal moment — it really changed for us after that talk. There was a lot more to it, but it’s a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to have a talk and go, ‘Are you being as mature as you can be?’ I’m so grateful to Lev and Maks and Natasha,” she concluded. “They were so supportive of everything.”

Though he wasn’t married at the time he counseled his parents, Lev eventually did tie the knot. Candace announced in a post on Instagram in January 2024 that her eldest son had gotten married.

“I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Lev Bure,” she wrote in a caption for the post at the time, which included a carousel of photos from the big day. “Words cannot express the joy we have felt this weekend celebrating the marriage of our son and his bride Elliott. We gained a beautiful daughter and a wonderful family to do life with. I have an overwhelming sense of love, joy, peace and contentment thanks to God’s blessing of family and friendship. My heart is so full.”
