NACOGDOCHES, Tx. – The women’s basketball team battled through several scoring shifts on Saturday afternoon, with a big third-quarter push to get back into the game before falling 87–67 to Stephen F. Austin.

Stephen F. Austin (11–5, 5–2 SLC) opened the game with early outside shooting, knocking down two threes in the first five minutes. HCU responded with points in the paint, with Kamryn McLaurin and Grace Booth each scoring inside to keep the Huskies close. SFA finished the quarter on an 8–2 run to take the early momentum.

The Huskies (4-10, 2-5 SLC) traded possessions defensively through the start of the second, highlighted by rebounds from Jordan Jackson and Hannah Fields, but SFA continued to create separation from the perimeter. Midway through, HCU used an 11–2 stretch to cut the deficit to single digits. The Huskies outscored SFA 31–28 in the quarter, trimming the margin heading into the fourth.

SFA regained its rhythm in the last quarter, connecting on multiple perimeter shots in the opening minutes to build back its lead. HCU continued to score inside, including baskets from Booth and Fields, while McLaurin added free throws to reach 11 points on the day. The Huskies closed the game with stops in the final minutes but were unable to overcome SFA’s fourth-quarter shooting.
