A three-year-old child has died and an adult has been injured after a house fire in Melbourne’s north on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at 2.18pm to find the house fully engulfed in flames. Using breathing apparatuses, they searched inside the single-story brick home on Dorothy Street in Fawkner.

They removed the toddler and an adult from the building. While CPR was administered on the child, they died at the scene.

The adult is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined at this stage,” police said.
