SAN ANTONIO — If you’re heading downtown this week, you’ll see plenty of walk but not a lot of river. That’s because the river is being drained for cleaning.
The San Antonio River Main Channel from West Josephine Street to South Alamo Street is being drained as part of the River Walk Maintenance program.
Crews are removing sediment build-up and debris, inspecting the channel’s integrity, as well as making any necessary repairs.
The last full draining was two years ago in January of 2024. Work is expected to wrap up by next Monday, Jan. 19. No road closures are planned.
