Global health company The Cigna Group completed its fourth round of layoffs this year at its New Jersey-based subsidiary Cigna Evernorth Health Services last week.

Evernorth, which provides pharmacy care and benefits solutions, announced layoffs back in April impacting 62 employees at its office in Morris Plains, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the state.

The previous cuts took effect on March 15, March 29, and April 12, according to the notice.

The staff reductions impacted employees in the technology and operations divisions, according to a company statement sent to NJ Advance Media.

“This decision was made with great care and focus, and we are providing a package that includes a variety of transition services for impacted colleagues,” a Cigna spokesperson said.

Launched by Cigna in 2020, Evernorth specializes in pharmacy solutions, benefits management, care solutions, and data and analytics, according to its website. For example, the company offers a service called FamilyPath, which helps users access comprehensive fertility benefits, such as a fertility advisor and 24/7 pharmacy support services.

In addition to Evernorth’s office in Morris Plains, the company also has a presence in St. Louis, Missouri, according to its website.

Evernorth’s parent company, Cigna, headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut, is one of the largest health insurance organizations in the world. The global company offers a wide range of health benefits, including medical, mental health, dental, and vision in more than 30 countries.

Cigna ranked number 13 on the Fortune 500 list of the highest-revenue generating companies in the United States with $247 billion in revenue recorded for 2025.

The company employs more than 64,000 people through its subsidiaries Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth Health Service.

It’s unclear exactly how many of those employees report to its Evernorth office in Morris Plains.
