SAN ANTONIO, Tx — Ongoing elevator problems are occurring at the Victoria Plaza Apartments. Last week, we told you about elevator issues at Victoria Plaza Apartments, a property for seniors and the disabled managed by Opportunity Home San Antonio.
Broken elevators making seniors feel trapped in the high-rise. Residents tell us the elevators broke down again over the weekend, forcing them to drag their walkers up multiple flights of stairs.
Opportunity Home says during the most recent elevator malfunction the staff conducted wellness checks, with particular attention given to residents who may require additional assistance.
After our report code enforcement visited the apartments today and issued the property a code violation.
According to code enforcement the property plans to repair the broken elevator tomorrow.
Since our initial report on the elevator problems at Victoria Plaza residents from another Opportunity Home managed property have reached out to say they’re having the same problems at Fair Avenue Apartments.
They say they only have one working elevator for 216 units in the 11-story building.
“I’m not going to kid you; some people have to wait up to an hour just to get on the elevator,” a resident said.
“The door slams back and forth on the elevator, and I just jump out,” a resident said. “It’s very scary. My friend got stuck on it. She called me and told me please let someone know.”
The residents chose to remain anonymous because they fear being evicted for speaking out.
The residents say both of the elevators at the Fair Avenue Apartment broke down last month, leaving some residents trapped outside for three hours.
Opportunity Home says both elevator cars have passed required state inspections at the Fair Avenue Apartments, and the second elevator car also passed a Fire Marshal inspection today.
