The Scottsdale Unified School District governing board unanimously approved a new insurance plan for employees during its Jan. 6 meeting that should save the district about $1 million a year for the first two years.

But the decision appears to do very little for the costs staff members will have to pay, according to district officials.

“The lede is, what’s this going to cost our employees and will they save from there, and I’m hearing there’s not a lot of wiggle room to change that,” board member Mike Sharkey told district CFO Shannon Crosier.
