TORONTO — The Philadelphia 76ers bounced back with a 115-102 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night to make up for the tough overtime loss they took in Toronto on Sunday. The win clinched a 2-1 road trip for Philadelphia and it earned a 2-2 split on the season series with the Raptors.

Tyrese Maxey scored 33 points for Philadelphia while Joel Embiid added 27 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, VJ Edgecombe had 15 points and eight assists, Paul George had 14 and six assists, and Quentin Grimes added six points and four assists.

Here are the three biggest takeaways following the win over the Raptors:

After some tough shooting nights to begin this road trip—they combined to make 12 triples on Friday in Orlando and Sunday—the Sixers knocked down 13 in the first half on Monday. The actions Philadelphia ran in this one were impressive as it allowed the shooters to get open looks, and of course, it helps that Maxey was on such a heater. He had 23 points by halftime as he and his star teammates were knocking down open looks from all over the floor. The offensive execution wasn’t nearly the same in the second half, but the fast start led the way to a much-needed win.

“Listen, things change pretty dramatically when you add two guys that can really score in Jo and Paul who weren’t there last night,” said coach Nick Nurse. “It changes all the spacing. Obviously, much more potent from 3 in general. Guys got into the game, bounced back, it was a good focus mentality, and I thought, again, made the right decisions with the basketball and kept moving it to who was open and guys that were open kept stepping into them and making them.”

Obviously, Lowry is a Toronto legend. He is referred to often as the GROAT which stands for Greatest Raptor Of All Time, and for good reason. While in year 20, Monday was likely his final game in Toronto and the fans made sure they let Nurse know they wanted to see him play. With the Sixers up big, the crowd at Scotiabank Arena let out a “We want Lowry!” chant all throughout the fourth quarter. It took a bit for him to get out there, but when he did, Lowry received a huge standing ovation and the future Hall of Famer received a lot of love from the country of Canada for his contributions in Toronto.

“It’s certainly nice that opportunity presented itself and it was really cool,” smiled Nurse after the win. “Obviously, tremendous, tremendous fans here and it was good to see that ovation and that experience was pretty neat. A lot of neat ones up here and that was another.”

The Big 3 of Maxey, George, and Embiid all had big nights as they continue to grow their chemistry as a group. That was the big question heading into the season as the three stars, obviously, didn’t have a ton of time together in the 2024-25 season. The three of them looked like they were in sync all night long and it’s been a real positive development for Philadelphia as it moves forward in the season.

“For sure and we kinda know our rotations,” Maxey stated. “We know when guys are gonna get the ball. When guys are gonna be aggressive and that’s the biggest thing. You realize matchups, when guys want the ball, in their spots. That’s big.”
