Suspension and Chelsea’s lack of form have definitely disrupted Moises Caicedo’s flow.

At the start of the season, Moises Caicedo was arguably the best player in the Premier League.

That is not the case right now, but the 24-year-old is still definitely one of the top No.6s in the division.

In fact, Liam Rosenior thinks Caicedo is actually the best midfielder in the world and will now be hoping that he can reach his maximum level again.

Discussion: Who is the actual best player at Chelsea right now? 👇

Like Rosenior, Chelsea legend Claude Makelele is also a fan of Caicedo, but he has some concerns about the Ecuadorian.

Makelele has warned his former club that if they do not hand him more experienced teammates, the standard of his performances will decline.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Chelsea need to put some good players around him for him to still be the best midfielder because if he plays all the time with the young boys, of course he will give them experience, but his performances will go down.”

In midfield, Caicedo does at least have Enzo Fernandez alongside him, though the Argentine has been deployed further forward at times this season.

Similarly to Caicedo, his form had also dipped. It is why Fernandez needed to put in a good performance against Manchester City at the start of the month, a team that he has never beaten before.

The Argentina international managed to do just that, scoring his side’s last-minute equaliser. Fernandez did it in the absence of Caicedo as well following his suspension.

Behdad Eghbali and Chelsea’s sporting directors will not want to hear what Makelele has had to say.

Under Eghbali and Todd Boehly, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have put together a youthful squad at Chelsea and believe in their vision.

Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers since their takeover in 2022 but are miles away from challenging for the Premier League title. Who needs to be held to account and why? 💰

Nineteen-year-old Abubacarr Sedi could be the next young player Chelsea sign amid interest in the Tromso IL defender.

It is hard to guess what his arrival would solve. Really, Eghbali and the Blues’ sporting structure should be listening to Makelele, but that happening seems unlikely.

Chelsea fans will have to give this project time, but a club of this size cannot be a project team forever.
