Service on the 7 train is slowly resuming between Manhattan and Queens after a brake issue partially suspended trains during the Wednesday morning commute.

The disruption began when a train’s brakes unexpectedly activated near Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, halting all service between 34th Street-Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza.

What You Need To Know

  • No 7 train service was running between 34 Street-Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza Wednesday morning
  • The MTA said a train’s brakes were activated near Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue
  • As alternatives, riders can take the E, F, M, N or W trains, or use M34-SBS buses

As of 8:55 A.M., the MTA said Hudson Yards-bound 7 trains may still terminate at Hunters Point Avenue or Queensboro Plaza. Riders are advised to listen for station announcements.

Additionally, Hudson Yards-bound trains will arrive on the Flushing-bound track between Court Square and Times Square-42nd Street.

While service is being restored, the MTA said there remains “extremely limited” service in both directions in Queens as crews continue to address the issue.

As alternatives, riders can take the E, F, M, N or W trains, or use M34-SBS buses.

The Long Island Rail Road is also cross-honoring MetroCards at no additional cost between Flushing-Main Street and Penn Station or Grand Central, including at Woodside.

The disruption comes just one day after service on the 1 line was suspended for most of the day due to water on the tracks near 168 Street-Washington Heights.

That suspension began during the morning rush and wasn’t lifted until around 5:30 p.m., according to the MTA.
