PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect was found this week living inside the Phoenix home of a man who he allegedly killed during a break-in.
The incident began late Monday night when Phoenix police officers checked on a home near 51st and Southern avenues in the Laveen area. Dispatchers were told that neighbors had not seen the resident of the home for several days.
Neighbors told police they thought someone was living inside the home due to activity to and from the house.
While investigating, officers saw a man dead in the backyard of the home, according to Phoenix Police. He was later identified as 57-year-old David Jimenez.
Officers believed someone was still inside the home and set up a barricade. The suspect, 18-year-old Xzavion Johnson, came out of the home and was arrested at the scene, police said.
During the investigation, Johnson reportedly told detectives that he burglarized the home in December 2025, and he shot and killed Jimenez in the process. Johnson also told police he had been living inside the home since the date of the homicide.

The suspect was booked on several charges, including murder and burglary. Detectives do not believe there are any additional suspects in this crime.
This incident remains an active investigation.
