California-based Latino grocer opens first store in Arizona

  • January 14, 2026

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Latino grocery store from Southern California will welcome new customers in the Valley on Wednesday!

Vallarta Supermarkets is opening its first-ever Arizona location with a big Grand Opening celebration at 7 a.m. The new store is at 59th Avenue and Camelback Road in Glendale.

The first 300 customers at the Grand Opening will receive a reusable bag full of groceries, according to the company.

When Arizona’s Family arrived at the store around 6:45 a.m., a line of customers was already wrapped around the building.

Vallarta Supermarkets has been a popular grocer among Californians for over 40 years. The company says expanding to Arizona will meet the West Valley’s demand for authentic Latino food.

“This is more than just a store opening, it’s the next chapter in Vallarta’s story,” Director of Marketing Lizette Gomez said when the store was announced. “We’ve built our reputation on authenticity, quality, and community, and we’re proud to bring that to Arizona for the very first time.”

Good Morning Arizona reporter Gibby Parra will be live from the new supermarket at 8 a.m. with a first look and more details!
