Just about every pooch basks in a little additional adoration, some gushingly delivered affection, and any attention that raises the spirits.
But these nice notions feel especially needed when a long-stay dog, the sort of pup that has been at an animal shelter for quite some time, is concerned.
Polly, a cute cattle dog mix, is one such dog.
Currently residing at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in West LA, Polly is a seven-year-old sweetheart in search of her forever person or family.
To help make that match, and to help raise awareness about the long-stay animals that reside in shelters across the city, the Best Friends team is throwing Polly a party, a bash so blissful that it boasts her very name: Pollypalooza.
The Jan. 17 celebration, cheekily billed as “a fake music festival,” is free to attend and open to all, and, yes, the party girl will be in attendance.
All attendees will receive wristbands, the kind of VIP wearables that say you’re at a “-palooza” and ready to have some fun and do some dancing (there will be a DJ, oh yes).
A craft-making station will grace the afternoon event — the bracelets you create will celebrate the guest of honor, of course — and vegan goodies made by Sweet Coyote will be available for munching.
Several companies will be on-hand to host giveaways and hold raffles, too, adding to the upbeat air of the affair.
“Polly will be in attendance vibing and meeting everyone — she just asks for your patience while she warms up to this whole stardom thing,” said the Best Friends staff.
“She is excited to share why she’d make the perfect addition to a family where she can get all the attention as the only dog.”
Best Friends Pet Adoption Center has several home-needing cuties, so be sure to visit them Jan. 17 or whenever the Pontius Avenue shelter is open.
The center also holds special sleep-over events throughout the calendar, giving people the chance to foster a furry friend for a few days. Keep an eye on the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center social pages for the latest information on foster slumber parties.
