Sneaker collectors and independent creators from around the globe gathered at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ, on Jan.10 for NY Got Sole. The tri-state area edition of the traveling sneaker convention that will stop in Atlanta and London later this year featured hundreds of vendors, exclusive merch drops, and appearances by rapper Fat Joe and pro-BMX rider Nigel Sylester, who were seen interacting with fans and shopping at the show.

Got Sole has hosted events since its inception in 2013, bringing together members of the sneaker-collecting community from around the globe. Exclusive brands lined the aisles alongside independent vendors, featuring a host of art, clothing, and toys in addition to shoes that ranged from the newest sneaker drops to vintage boots and beyond, attracting enthusiasts from across the country. Antwuan, a 19-year-old independent business owner from Darlington, South Carolina, who recently relocated to Allentown, PA saw the expo as a unique opportunity for his venture, 610 Street Wear Supply, that buys and sells shoes. “So far it’s been pretty good, I like the environment and the atmosphere here,” Antuwan told the Amsterdam News in an on-site interview. “What brought me here? … Buying and selling … the money!” Among the independent vendors onsite was Harlem-based clothing brand Harlem, with a flagship boutique shop on 125th St. right across the street from the Apollo Theatre. “It’s pretty cool, we’re getting good feedback,” said Alexander, who was manning the booth on Saturday.

Later in the afternoon, Nigel Sylvester and Fat Joe were spotted walking through the crowd, perusing shoes and interacting with enthusiastic fans who couldn’t help but crowd the stars. Additional attractions included an on-site barber, a free “legit check” station that verified the authenticity of shoes, and a DJ who kept the energy up throughout the day. Despite the rain, it was a good day in sneaker land.
