Police are investigating an alleged assault with a weapon that took place in Port Coquitlam over the weekend.

At 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the scene near the intersection of Shaughnessy Street and Kingsway Avenue.

Upon arrival, police found a victim suffering non-life-threatening injuries who was then transported to the hospital.

The alleged perpetrator, however, fled the area before the Coquitlam RCMP had arrived.

Its General Investigation Section has now taken over the investigation.

Police were not yet able to speak to the victim due to the nature of their injuries.

Investigators have assumed the victim did not know the suspect. They are appealing for the help of potential witnesses in identifying the suspect, who Mounties believe is male.

“We are asking anyone who may have information, CCTV, cellphone or dash-cam video in the area of the 2800 block of Shaughnessy Street between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to contact our investigators and quote file number 2026-931,” acting Cpl. George Han said.
